Spiritual Skepticism & Reiki
For as long as I can remember, I've approached spiritual practices with a healthy dose of skepticism. I think this stems from being neurodivergent and wanting to understand how something works, especially if I cannot see it happening.
Over the years, I've experimented with all sorts of practices to determine whether or not I choose to believe in them, and most recently, I experimented with Reiki.
I’ve been offering distant and in-person Reiki sessions for a while now, yet I occasionally hear that voice of doubt in the back of my mind whispering, "This is all made up. Nothing is happening." Even though clients will share fantastic feedback after their session, I sometimes wonder if they're just being nice.
I can't see Reiki, and it feels challenging to understand how it works particularly distant Reiki.
The closest comparison I’ve come up with is a wireless connection on a computer or cellphone. We know the signal is present even though we can’t see it, and that signal tunes in to a specific frequency that allows us to connect with other people.
Rather than letting doubt continue to haunt me, I experimented with some pumpkin seeds.
I planted seven pumpkin seeds simultaneously using the same soil, water, light, and living conditions. The only difference is that I give one minute of Reiki to four of the seven seeds every day.
After three days, 3 out of 4 seeds that received Reiki sprouted, while none of the seeds that didn't receive Reiki sprouted. I posted pictures on my Instagram story, which you can find below:
I can't explain how this happened, but the results are incredible. Now, whenever doubt wants to creep in, I can remind myself of this little experiment and trust that even though I can't see it, it doesn't mean nothing is happening.
This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of Reiki, and I'd love for you to experience it, too. Join me on the first Monday of every month for Distant Community Reiki, or you can book a personal Distant Reiki session.
