About Playa Viva

Playa Viva is a sustainable, eco-luxury, boutique hotel with a focus on positive social and environmental impact within their local ecosystem. At Playa Viva you are immersed in the luxury of the natural landscape set on 200-acres of wild coastal reserve. Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains near the village of Juluchuca, Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine and private beach.

In 2010, Playa Viva founded La Tortuga Viva (LTV) to protect endangered turtles from predators, poachers, and habitat degradation. LTV is staffed by an all-volunteer team comprised of members of the local community of Juluchuca. Playa Viva supports the sanctuary by helping to raise funds for needed equipment. The volunteers patrol the beach at night to look for turtles or turtle tracks, to collect nests buried in the sand, and to bring these eggs to the sanctuary just as the mother turtle left them. The eggs are kept safe within a protected incubation sanctuary that keeps them out of the reach from the real and imminent danger of predators and poachers.

During our stay, we’re invited to join a night patrol with volunteers from LTV as well as assist with the release of the baby turtles to the ocean in the morning. This is truly an experience of a lifetime.

  • I’d recommend bringing anything that feels comfortable. The temperatures highs are about 89 degrees with an average low of 76 degrees. Be sure to pack bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, sneakers, or light shoes for exploring. You may want a light sweater in case it feels cooler at night.

I’d also recommend bringing a flashlight, bug spray, sunscreen and hat. You might want long sleeves and pants to protect from mosquitos during the early evening hours.

No need to bring any yoga props because mats, blocks, straps and blankets will be provided.

  • All retreat attendees must present proof of up to date COVID vaccination status (including boosters) prior to the retreat date. You must submit paperwork proof of a negative COVID test no more than 48 hours before the retreat start date.
